Please read this Privacy Policy (“Privacy Policy”) carefully as the terms may have changed since your last visit to this Project Wiki. As a “User” and “Contributor”, your usage and contributions to this Project Wiki you accept and consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. This Policy is effective as from 13 November 2007.

Amendments and Updates to this Policy:

The Project Personnel may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect regulatory requirements or changes in our information collection, use or disclosure practices. If this Privacy Policy is changed, the new Effective Date will be noted here. You should therefore view this Page regularly to view our most up-to-date Privacy Policy.

Submission of Personal Information:

The nature and purpose of this Wiki is to allow you and other Users and Contributors to share information relating to relevant experience, expertise, views and opinions related to the Copyright Review Project in an open and transparent manner. With the exception of the information collected automatically, as detailed below and may include personal information, the Project Researchers and Project Administrators do not generally expect from or intend for you to submit personal or private information. Notwithstanding the above, should you submit personal information for any legitimate reason; such information will be treated in compliance with legislative requirements pertaining to personal information and privacy of information in South Africa. Be aware though that if you reveal private information in a public context, such as posting it on the wiki that your expectation of privacy is reduced. It is also not possible for the Project to control how other people use the information which you have made publicly available.

Automatic collection of personal information:

The Project Wiki uses software known as “cookies” that automatically transfers information to a directory on the hard drive of your computer when you are browsing the Project Wiki. Cookies automatically collect and store information about your activities while visiting the Project Wiki, such as your IP address, the web pages you view, the times you view them, the number of visits you have made, and information about the browser you are using. In addition Project Administrators may use this browsing information to understand how Project Wiki is being used, to refine it to suit our User’s and Contributor’s interests, for systems administration and related technical purposes.

What are Cookies:

Cookies only identify a personal computer, not the person using it; however for Users with a dedicated IP address, the address itself may be personal information. If you use a public Internet access provider, your IP address probably varies from session to session. We do not link browsing information to the personal information you submit to us. You may disable cookies or set your browser to alert you when cookies are being sent. If you chose to not accept cookies, this does not affect the functionality of the Project Wiki, but it may impair your use of or prevent access to some areas.

What is personal information?

Personal information means any information relating to a natural person, who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identification number or to one or more factors specific to his or her physical, physiological, mental, economic, cultural or social identity.

Third Party Access to Personal Information:

Personal information that you choose to make available on the public sections of the Wiki and the associated blogs can be viewed by third party individuals with internet access. The manner in which information available on public pages is used by third party individuals falls outside the control of the Project Personnel of this Project. We urge Contributors to consider with care what personal information a Contributor elects to make available online on the Project Wiki.

Third Party Sites linking to the Project Wiki:

This Privacy Policy does not apply to any third-party sites even if accessed via this Project Wiki. The Project Researchers, Project Administrators and Project Sponsors (jointly the “Project Personnel”) assume no responsibility for the privacy practices or the content of such websites or how they handle and store personal information that you provide to them. We advise that you read carefully through any third-party privacy policies before agreeing to their terms or using such third party websites.

Disclosure of Personal Information:

The Project Personnel will not sell your personal information to third parties without your prior consent. The Project Personnel may disclose your personal information as required by law when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order or legal process.

The Project may disclose the results of aggregated personal information, for instance to show which city the most comments came from.
